Martin Bunyard, 30/03/2016

NLRS sale commentary:

Yarding 5178  Change -3222

Yarding numbers fell 40% and the quality of cattle penned also declined. Restocker buyers remained active on calves, but were more selective when purchasing light weight yearling steers. Light weight yearling heifers returned to the paddock at similar prices to the previous store sale, while medium weight 3 score cows received increased Queensland processor competition. Early weaned male sorts sold to 400c and averaged 385c, while heifer calves reached 360c and averaged 336c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers topped at 372c and averaged 350c, down 9c, while slightly heavier sorts made to 355c and averaged 331c, down 10c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 340c and averaged 312c, down 15c, and those returning to the paddock hit 345c and averaged 331c, up 5c/kg.
