Beef Central, 28/05/2014

NLRS commentary on Roma Store Sale:

Yarding 6000 Change -700

There was a slight decline in supply, with a good yarding of mostly local south west Queensland cattle and the occasional consignment from central areas of the state. The quality lines of light weight yearling steers attracted solid restocker buyer competition and prices improved 7c/kg. Feedlot buyers were very active on medium and heavy weight steers. The improved quality of light weight yearling heifers to feed helped lift prices by 5c/kg, while most other classes were cheaper in price. Store conditioned cows fell 15c/kg in price. Cows and calves sold to $600/unit.

Light weight yearling steers topped at 214c and averaged 197c, up 7c, while plainer lines averaged 160c, up 7c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feedlot buyers sold to 193c and averaged 186c, up 5c, while those returning to the paddock reached 188c and averaged 179c, up 3c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 194c and averaged 190c, up 7c, and those to restockers made to 193c and averaged 187c/kg, unchanged in price. Light weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 146c and averaged 141c, up 5c/kg. Those to processors made to 143c and averaged 132c, down 5c, while those to restockers sold to 144c and averaged 135c, down 1c/kg.
