Yarding 8979 Change -1832

Good numbers of cattle from across western Queensland were yarded. The quality of store cattle ranged from very good to plain, well-conditioned sorts.

A large panel of restocker and feedlot buyers were present at the sale with heavy weight steers to feedlot buyers finding very strong demand. Restocker buyers were more active on light weight yearling heifers than the previous sale with prices improving up to 40c, despite extra plainer, quality consignments penned. Cows and calves sold to $1,280 and averaged $986/unit. Steer calves sold to 342c and averaged 325c, up 1c, while heifer calves made to 315c and averaged 295c/kg. Light weight yearling steers topped at 334c and averaged between 301c and 312c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed earned to 324c and averaged 303c and those returning to the paddock hit 299c and averaged 282c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 328c and averaged 320c, up 22c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers reached 328c and averaged between 272c and 288c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 300c and averaged 283c/kg. Light store cows to restockers made to 200c and averaged 184c, while medium weight 3 score cows topped at 250c and averaged 236c, up 12c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows hit 256c and averaged 255c, up 6c/kg.

Roma calves hit 342c/kg

A total of 8979 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 342c/kg and averaged 310c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 334c/kg and averaged 295c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 326c/kg and averaged 286c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 322c/kg and averaged 292c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 328c/kg and averaging 312c/kg.

A Barton & Co, Manfred Downs, Julia Creek, Santa steers sold to 330c/kg for 183kg to return $604/head.

A & H Howard, Locharnoch, Jericho, sold Santa steers to 334c for 249kg to return $834.
