It was another large yarding of good to fair quality store cattle. More restocker buyers were in attendance after scattered rainfall across some southern regions and light weight yearling steer prices lifted 5c/kg. Feedlot buyers were more reserved when purchasing heavy weight yearling steers, but the top quality sorts continued to sell to similar prices of the previous sale.

An active restocker helped lift light weight yearling heifer averages, while feedlot buyers paid 2c more for medium weight yearling heifers. An extra processor buyer helped lift prices for the bottom end of 3 score medium weight cows. Cows and calves sold to $880 and averaged $715/unit. Light weight yearling steers sold to 274c, for very light weight sorts, and most averaged between 236c and 247c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 258c and averaged 234c, down 6c, while those to restockers made to 253c and averaged 233c, down 4c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 258c and averaged 239c, down 9c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to processors reached 206c and averaged 181c, while those to restockers hit 226c and averaged 204c/kg. Those to feedlot buyers topped at 221c and averaged 188c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 217c and averaged 194c, up 2c/kg. Medium weight score 3 cows made to 166c and averaged 158c, while heavy weight 4 score cows earned to 183c and averaged 176c/kg.

Roma light heifers to 230c/kg

A total of 8372 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 274c/kg and averaged 241c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 274c/kg and averaged 232c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 268c/kg and averaged 228c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 253c/kg and averaged 216c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 258c/kg and averaging 221c/kg.

A, R & P Owens, Arranmore Station, Longreach, sold Santa-cross steers to 274c/kg for 256kg to return $701/head. The Santa heifers sold to 206c for 246kg to return $508.

Peel Mungerie, Inverness, Blackall, sold Santa steers to 268c for 302kg to return $810.

R & S Pether, Roseneath Station, Longreach, sold Simmental-cross steers to 267c for 282kg to return $754. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 222c for 203kg to return $451.

Golden Pastoral Holdings, Nullin, Yuleba, sold Charolais-cross steers to 258c for 310kg to return $801. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 221c for 306kg to return $678.

Ringport, Kurrajong, Drillham, sold Santa steers to 257c for 487kg to return $1253.

Yackatoon Grazing Co, Peak Crossing, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 258c for 421kg to return $1088.

Defiance Cattle Co, Mountain Cottage, Roma, sold Santa steers to 253c for 366kg to return $926. The Santa heifers sold to 217c for 334kg to return $726.

JP Pearson, Roselea, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 246c for 396kg to return $975. The Santa heifers sold to 205c for 356kg to return $730.

Sutton Beef, Bundabar, Glen Morgan, sold Santa-cross steers to 242c for 293kg to return $710.

K Bredhauer, Rosevale, Wyandra, sold Charolais-cross steers to 240c for 312kg to return $750.

J & B Russell, Willara, Augathella, sold Charolais-cross steers to 238c for 378kg to return $901. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 206c for 320kg to return $659.

G & J Girle, Al-Fresco, Injune, sold Cross bred steers to 230c for 459kg to return $1056.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 210c/kg and averaged 176c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 221c/kg and averaged 187c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 220c/kg and averaged 189c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 230c/kg and averaged 203c/kg.

S Kidman & Co, Naryilco, Tibooburra, sold Santa-cross heifers to 226c for 178kg to return $403.

South West Cattle, Mitchell Downs, Mitchell, sold Angus-cross steers to 221c for 334kg to return $739.

Preston Partnership, Nullawurt, Roma, sold Charbray-cross heifers to 210c for 388kg to return $816.

The York Family, Yorkaringa, Wallumbilla, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 210c for 336kg to return $705.

Argyle Pastoral Co, Rutchillo, McKinlay, sold Romagnola-cross heifers to 196c for 347kg to return $681.

Cows over 500kg sold to 183c/kg and averaged 176c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 180c/kg and averaged 169c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 164c/kg and averaged 148c/kg.

Astaline, Ourdel, Windorah, sold Brahman-cross cows to 180c for 495kg to return $893.

Cows and calves sold to $880/unit and averaged $715/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 240c/kg and average 200c/kg.
