Roma Store NLRS sale commentary:

Yarding 1791 Change -3959

A small yarding of store cattle were penned after widespread rainfall across south west Queensland over the weekend.

The wet weather brought plenty of optimism to the market and prices remained firm across the board on last week’s high price returns.

Light weight yearling steers gained a further 21c, while light weight yearling heifers increased 7c/kg on average. All the usual feedlot buyers were present and operating. Light weight yearling steers topped at 398c and ranged between 372c and 379c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed earned to 350c and averaged 337c, up 2c, while those returning to the paddock reached 344c and averaged 338c/kg, unchanged in price.

Light weight yearling heifers sold to 366c and ranged between 276c and 327c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 338c and averaged 332c, up 16c/kg. Bullocks sold between 305c and 316c/kg. The 3 score medium weight cows earned to 278c and averaged 255c, up 21c, while heavy weight 4 score cows topped at 283c and ranged between 266c and 276c/kg. Heavy bulls sold to 276c/kg.

A total of 1791 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 394c/kg and averaged 378c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 398c/kg and averaged 378c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 394c/kg and averaged 350c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 350c/kg and averaged 326c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 310c/kg and averaging 293c/kg.

P & M Brennan, For Far, Mitchell, sold Charolais-cross steers to 398c/kg for 227kg to return $907/head.

J & L Postle, Doboy, Injune, sold Charolais-cross steers to 396c for 232kg to return $920.

Gwenbrook Farms, Gwenbrook, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 394c for 293kg to return $1155. The Charolais-cross heifers topped at 366c for 273kg to return $1002.

A & M Seaby, Clarice Vale, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 394c for 150kg to return $594.

Larry Bidgood, Wurama, Condamine, sold Angus steers to 384c for 272kg to return $1047. The Angus heifers sold to 334c for 261kg to return $873.

R J Kidd Estate, Old Cashmere, St George, sold Braford steers to 376c for 225kg to return $848. The Braford heifers sold to 338c for 219kg to return $741.

Kensington Holding, Roma, sold Angus heifers to 335c for 369kg to return $1237.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 338c/kg and averaged 316c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 330c/kg and averaged 288c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 366c/kg and averaged 321c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 346c/kg and averaged 334c/kg.

A & L Travers, Aldville, Wyandra, sold Santa-cross heifers to 346c for 151kg to return $524.

Cows over 500kg sold to 283c/kg and averaged 266c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 269c/kg and averaged 248c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 252c/kg and averaged 231c/kg.

S Kidman & Co, Glengyle Station, Birdsville, sold Santa-cross cows to 283c for 573kg to return $1622.

Cows and calves sold to $1400/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 366c/kg and averaged 306c/kg.
