Roma store 21 Aug 2018: Rain forecast lifts restocker enthusiasm

Light weight yearling steers were in the largest numbers, along with a good number of light weight yearling heifers. Around 880 cows were penned and close to 60% of the cows offered were returned to the paddock.

The forecast of some rain lifted restocker and backgrounder enthusiasm. The largest samples of yearling steers averaged 10c better and up to 18c/kg in places. Yearling heifers also shared in the increasing market to average 12c to 20c/kg dearer on top of the gains experienced the previous week. Cows to restockers improved by over 20c and the export slaughter classes averaged 5c to 7c/kg better.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 280.2c, to average 258c and heifer calves made to an isolated 252.2c, with most
making around 209c/kg. A large selection of light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 276c, with some
reaching 297.2c/kg.

Yearling steers in the 280-330kg range made to a top of 299.2c, to average 272c/kg. Most medium weight yearling steers sold around 282c, with the occasional pen making to 298.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed over 400kg made to 273.2c, to average 272c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling heifers averaged 230c and made to 246.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 230c, with heavy weights to the trade making to 240c, to average 228c/kg.
Light weight plain condition cows returned to the paddock at an average of 154c and the medium weight PTIC made to
202.2c/kg. Medium weight 2 scores to processors averaged 177c and made to 181.2c, with the best of the medium weights
averaging 209c/kg. Most good heavy cows sold around 216c, with some making to 221.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 255c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 288c/kg and averaged 259c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 297c/kg and averaged 277c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 299c/kg and averaged 266c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg
range reached 272c/kg and averaged 248c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 273c/kg and averaging 255c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $510/unit.

EJ & CF Rolfe, Marie Downs, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 298c/kg, reaching a top of $1,011 to average $961.
Grant Pastoral, Koolbi, Bingara sold Santa steers to 297c/kg, reaching a top of $826 to average $769. The Santa cross heifers sold to 234c/kg, reaching a top of $627 to average $591.
HD & NJ Nelder, Callala, Augathella sold Santa steers to 288c/kg, reaching a top of $704 to average $585. The Santa heifers sold to 236c/kg, reaching a top of $603 to average $481.
CJ Russell sold Santa cross steers to 286c/kg, reaching a top of $790 to average $725. The Santa cross heifers sold to 232c/kg, reaching a top of $597 to average $530.
Bungoona Pastoral Co, Bungoona, Longreach sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $730 to average $628. The Droughtmaster cross heifers sold to 233c/kg, reaching a top of $617 to average $506.

Ian Brumpton Holdings Pty Ltd, Oaklands, Roma sold Angus heifers to 230c/kg, reaching a top of $654 to average $633.
Scott Barbour, Moorabinda, Taroom sold Angus cross Angus heifers to 228c/kg,
reaching a top of $875 to average $642.
Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 202c/kg and averaged 141c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 219c/kg and averaged 180c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 221c/kg, averaging 193c/kg.
Scott Ridley, Talegar, Coonamble sold PTIC Angus cows to 202c/kg, reaching a top of $1,049 to average $862.
