Roma store sale NLRS comment

Yarding 5209,  Change -702

The usual numbers of store cattle were penned again this week. It was a very mixed quality yarding but, despite the lower quality cattle on offer at times, prices and competition for store cattle remain solid. Good numbers of local restocker buyers were in attendance and feedlot buyer competition increased again this week for both suitable domestic and export feeder steers. Larger than normal numbers of western store cows were yarded and a full panel of export processors continued to push cow prices higher. Cows and calves sold to $720 and averaged $525/unit.

Light weight yearling steers hit 224c and averaged 202c, up 2c, while plainer lines averaged mostly between 166c and 176c, down 8c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed sold to 216c and averaged 195c, while those returning to the paddock topped at 200c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 214c and averaged 203c, up 3c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feedlot buyers sold to 196c and averaged 189c, up 10c, and those to processors made to 198c and averaged 186c, up 13c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed hit 198c and averaged 191c, up 11c/kg. Good quality heavy weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 183c, up 5c/kg.
