Martin Bunyard, 03/06/2015

NLRS Roma Sale commentary:

Yarding 9618 Change 1589

It was a plainer yarding of cattle, with the occasional consignment of good quality sorts from the local supply area. The total number of cattle penned increase nearly 20%. Good quality yearling steers and heifers continued to attract solid restocker and feedlot buyer competition, but plainer lines were cheaper than last week. Extra feedlot buyers were active on heavy weight yearling steers, but the extra competition was limited to only good quality consignments of suitable steers. Processors and feedlot buyers were keen to secure well-conditioned light and medium weight heifers, while plainer conditioned sorts were discounted 16c to 38c/kg. The medium weight 3 score cows were 4c/kg cheaper. Cows and calves sold to $1130/unit.

Light weight yearling steers made to 286c and averaged between 227c and 257c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed hit 274c and averaged 245c, down 15c, while those to restocker buyers sold to 258c and averaged 243c, down 7c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 278c and averaged 247c, down 10c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to a local feedlot buyer made to 234c and averaged between 212c and 218c/kg. Those returning to the paddock topped at 244c and averaged between 187c and 218c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed reached 238c and averaged 215c, down 3c, while those going to processors sold to 230c and averaged 204c, down 3c/kg.

Grown steers to feed earned to 244c and averaged between 227c and 231c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows made to 188c and averaged 168c, down 4c/kg.
