The Roma Landmark Cattle Selling Team in action at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Numbers remained close to firm week-on-week for another large offering. The overall condition of the cattle was mixed, as many started to show signs of the dry seasonal conditions, with increased numbers of lighter weight cattle coming forward. Price trends were easier across most categories, with quality a factor. All the regular restocker and feeder buyers were in attendance and operating.

A large yarding of yearling steers saw light weight C2 grades sell to restocker buyers 11c lower, ranging from 180c to 208c, averaging 192c, while the D2 portion returned to the paddock also averaged 11¢ cheaper, making between 88c and 198c/kg.

Medium C3 yearling steers to feed eased from last week, averaging 193c, while heavy weight C3 yearling steers to feeder orders declined 1¢, making from 180c to 205c, averaging 196c/kg. Light weight D2 yearling heifers to restock were 6c lower week-on-week, at 154c, with the D2 portion to feed back 8c on 152c, while medium D3 lines to feed sold 1¢ easier, at 165c/kg.

The cow penning saw light weight D2 grades to restock average dearer than a week ago, ranging between 90c and 156c, while medium weight D3 grades to processors increased 4c, averaging 137c/kg. Bull consignments saw light D2 grades to processors ease 11c week-on-week, selling from 132c to 156c, while the D3 equivalent averaged 137c/kg.

 

Summary report

A total of 7300 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 208c/kg and averaged 173c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 206c/kg and averaged 184c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 200c/kg and averaged 179c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 200c/kg and averaged 191c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 205c/kg and averaging 190c/kg.

S & M Russell, Willara, Augathella, sold Charolais steers to 200c for 326kg to return $653. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 176c for 246kg to return $434.

Moonya Pastoral Co, Moonya, Roma, sold Cross Bred steers to 199c for 279kg to return $556.

M Chalmers & Camarca, Macdonald Downs, Alice Springs, sold Santa steers to 198c for 411kg to return $816.

I & C Wilson, Wyreema, Injune, sold Angus-cross steers to 198c for 268kg to return $532.

Douglas Cattle Co, Verniew, Mitchell, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 195c for 386kg to return $753.

T & V Nicolle, Rockley, Warialda, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 195c for 215kg to return $419. The Simbrah heifers sold to 166c for 256kg to return $426.

N & S Courtice, Ladas Downs, Glenmorgan, sold Angus-cross steers to 194c for 255kg to return $495.

J Irwin, Bikini, Yuleba, sold Charolais steers to 190c for 327kg to return $622.

Glen Fosslyn Grazing Co, Glen Fosslyn, Glenmorgan, sold Droughtmaster steers to 188c for 636kg to return $1198.

R & H Hall, Whyenbirra, Bollon, sold Santa steers to 186c for 270kg to return $503.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 176c/kg and averaged 159c/kg.Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 170c/kg and averaged 157c/kg.Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 178c/kg and averaged 154c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 175c/kg and averaged 147c/kg.

P & S Stokes, Perwell, St George, sold Brangus-cross heifers to 176c for 364kg to return $641.

Rosemount Grazing, Rosemount Station, Barcaldine, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 165c for 308kg to return $508.

Cows over 500kg sold to 149c/kg and averaged 133c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 148c/kg and averaged 123c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 156c/kg and averaged 101c/kg.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 178c/kg and average 152c/kg.
