NLRS Roma Store Sale commentary:

Yarding 3470, Change -2269

Numbers fell 40pc after good rainfall across some areas west of Roma. A few extra restocker buyers were operating during the sale and prices jumped 1c to 3c/kg for light weight yearling steers. Demand was split between restockers and feedlots for medium weight yearling steers, while heavy weight yearling feeder steers remained unchanged in price. Extra restocker demand from a central Queensland buyer pushed light weight yearling heifers up by 18c/kg. Queensland processors were active on suitable cattle with plain store conditioned cows improved in price.

Light weight yearling steers sold to restocker buyers for a high of 190c and averaged 172c, up 1c, while plainer lines averaged 147c, up 10c/kg. Those bought by feedlots hit 184c and averaged 176c, up 3c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to restockers sold to 175c and averaged 173c, down 1c, while those to feed earned to 184c and averaged 176c, up 3c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 170c and averaged 169c, unchanged in price. Most light weight yearling heifers returned to the paddock sold to 146c and averaged 140c, up 18c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 151c and averaged 141c, up 10c/kg.

A good line of grown heifers to feed sold to 151c and averaged 150c/kg. Light weight store conditioned 2 score cows sold to 100c and averaged 95c, up 16c/kg. The well-conditioned 4 score cows sold to 143c and averaged  139c/kg. 

 

Weekly Roma Store Sale press report:

A total of 3470 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 184c/kg and averaged 166c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 190c/kg and averaged 167c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 186c/kg and averaged 169c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 167c/kg and averaged 158c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 172c/kg and averaging 166c/kg.

Mackay & Mackay, Hereward, Longreach, sold Santa steers to 190c/kg for 270kg to return $514/head. The Santa heifers made to 148c for 173kg to return $257.

J & F Hamilton, Longreach, sold Charolais-cross steers to 184c for 347kg to return $640.

S Kidman, Naryilco Station, Tibooburra, sold Santa-cross steers to 180c for 240kg to return $432. The Santa-cross heifers topped at 147c for 440kg to make $647.

E & C Rolfe, Marie Downs, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 175c for 344kg to return $602. The Charolais heifers sold to 141c for 340kg to return $480.

The Joliffe family, Landreath, Amby, sold Santa-cross steers to 173c for 298kg to return $516.

HC Pastoral, Karalee Plains, Wandoan, sold Droughtmaster steers to 170c for 444kg to return $755.

J Blackburn, Mt Bindango, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 170c for 251kg to return $428.

S Houston, Erindale, Wallumbilla, sold Angus-cross steers to 168c for 448kg to return $753. 

A & K Yorkston, Dalziel, Taroom, sold Braford steers to 168c for 323kg to return $544. The Braford heifers topped at 138c for 328kg to make $454.

Dalco Pastoral, Sugarloaf, Wallumbilla, sold Angus steers to 165c for 297kg to return $491. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 151c for 412kg to return $623.
Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 151c/kg and averaged 136c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 144c/kg and averaged 136c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 146c/kg and averaged 140c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 148c/kg and averaged 136c/kg.

Dalmally Grazing Co, Dalmally, Roma, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 150c for 417kg to return $625.

Layershire, Roma, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 143c for 240kg to return $343.

C & J Varidel, Carisbrook, Yuleba, sold Angus heifers to 140c for 291kg to return $408.

Lyle Brown, Mount Leigh, Wallumbilla, sold Santa-cross heifers to 135c for 235kg to return $317.

Cows over 500kg sold to 140c/kg and averaged 130c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at 143c/kg and averaged 118c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 111c/kg and averaged 85c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $710 and averaged $480/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 154c/kg and average 131c/kg.
