NLRS market comment:

Yarding 6348 Change -681

There were a few less cattle yarded at this week’s store sale, for a total of 6,300 head. The yarding consisted mainly of good quality cattle, suitable for restockers, back grounders and feeders.

There was a good line up of buyers at the sale competing at strong prices, which were similar to last week’s sale. Most of the light cattle went to restockers and back grounders to go on to oat crops. Light restocker yearling steers sold to a top of 430c to average 400c/kg. Medium weight restocker steers ranged from 360c to 410c to average 390c/kg. Medium weight feeder steers sold to a top of 392c to average 374c, while heavy feeder steers ranged from 370c to 394c/kg. Grown steers to feed sold from 322c to 380c/kg.

Heifers met strong competition with light weights selling 334c to 384c and feeder heifers sold from 324c to 386c to average 368c/kg. Grown heifers to the feeders ranged from 314c to 380c/kg. There was a larger penning of cows this week. Restockers were active in the market, keen to acquire cows for oat crops, paying 210c to 254c/kg. The cow market was softer this week with one operator absent. Medium and heavy cows sold from 233c to 255c/kg.
