Numbers were well up this week for a yarding of 4,400 head. Cattle were drawn from the usual areas, including the far West and North.

The yarding consisted of a good supply of yearlings, along with several runs of grown steers and heifers. There was also a larger penning of cows. Quality of the young cattle was fairly good with increased numbers of well finished cattle and, also a larger percentage of the young cattle were well bred.

Competition was very strong from restockers and feeder buyers. The demand for weaner steers was much stronger this week, selling to a top of 444c with a very healthy average of 413c/kg. Medium weight feeder steers sold to a top of 388c for an average of 373c and restockers sold to 402c/kg.

Weaner heifers also attracted keener competition selling to a top of 402c, while medium weight feeder heifers topped at 385c to 374c/kg. Grown steers to feed sold to a top of 375c to average 358c, while grown heifers to slaughter sold to a top of 326c/kg.

The larger yarding of cows were 4c to 5c dearer with medium weights averaging 252c and heavy cows sold to a top of 286c/kg. Restocker cows were also dearer topping at 257c/kg. Heavy bulls topped at 290c/kg.

Weekly Roma Store press report: Roma light steers hit 442c/kg

A total of 4400 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 442c/kg and averaged 428c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 428c/kg and averaged 402c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 426c/kg and averaged 373c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 387c/kg and averaged 365c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 367c/kg and averaging 351c/kg.

R & K Russell, Augathella, sold Santa-cross steers to 442c/kg for 195kg to return $862/head. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 404c for 208kg to return $841.

C Russell, Ingledoon, Augathella, sold Santa-cross steers to 438c for 210kg to return $922. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 404c for 222kg to return $899.

B Rolfe, Marie Downs, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 422c for 274kg to return $1159. The Charoalis-cross heifers sold to 374c for 263kg to return $986.

M & B Gobbert, Amboola, Mitchell, sold Droughtmaster steers to 420c for 225kg to return $945.

Brad Marks, Bullecourt, Charleville, sold Santa-cross steers to 420c for 224kg to return $944.

J & M Collinson, West Myall, Roma, sold Simmental-cross steers to 416c for 316kg to return $1315. The Simmental-cross heifers sold to 372c for 255kg to return $949.

J & C Beitz, Middle Ridge, Amby, sold Santa-cross steers to 384c for 371kg to return $1427. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 359c for 319kg to return $1147.

Wills Down Pastoral Co, Windsor Park, Boulia, sold Santa-cross steers to 375c for 375kg to return $1408.

L Griffin, Carrington, Roma, sold Droughtmaster steers to 364c for 481kg to return $1754.

K Donohoe & Sons, Nevasa, Wandoan, sold Droughtmaster steers to 364c for 353kg to return $1286. The Droughtmaster-cross heifers sold to 358c for 353kg to return $1264.

P & C Walters, Wynulla, Wallumbilla, sold Santa-cross steers to 362c for 462kg to return $1673.

Argyle Pastoral Co, Rutchillo, Julia Creek, sold Brahman steers to 360c for 502kg to return $1809.

D & K Noon, Cedarvale, Mitchell, sold Angus-cross steers to 360c for 471kg to return $1698.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 385c/kg and averaged 346c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 378c/kg and averaged 337c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 404c/kg and averaged 368c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 428c/kg and averaged 381c/kg.

Doug Cameron Livestock, Nive Downs, Charleville, sold Angus-cross heifers to 402c for 219kg to return $883.

Nugent Pastoral Co, Tambo Station, Tambo, sold Santa-cross heifers sold to 385c for 360kg to return $1388.

W & K Brown sold Angus heifers to 366c for 316kg to return $1157.

J & J Bell, Kinnoul, Taroom, sold Santa-cross heifers to 366c for 272kg to return $997.

Cows over 500kg sold to 288/kg and averaged 261c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 280c/kg and averaged 251c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 292c/kg and averaged 229c/kg.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 406c/kg and averaged 331c/kg.
