NLRS Roma Store Sale commentary: 

Yarding 6900, Change 1830

It was the largest yarding of store cattle at Roma for 2014. Several Queensland feedlots were buying cattle for the first time in several months at the sale, which pushed prices up for heavy weight yearling steers to feed with a 187c/kg top achieved. Thegood quality lines of light weight yearling steers sold well and reached 187c/kg, while plainer lines of cattle appeared hard to sell
at times. Feedlot buyers were very active again this week on light and medium weight heifers. The better quality lines of lightweight yearling heifers sold to 155c/kg. Angus-cross and Santa-cross cows and calves topped at $550/unit and $570/unit, whilethe remaining mix of cows and calves averaged $412.

Light weight calves topped at 189c/kg and averaged 173c, while D muscled lines averaged 144c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to 186c and averaged 171c, while plainer lines averaged between 148c and 152c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed
topped at 186c and averaged 175c, while D muscled sorts sold around 150c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 187c and averaged 178c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feed reached 155c and averaged 141c, while southern processors reached 152c and averaged 129c/kg. Those returning to the paddock made to 151c and averaged 129c/kg. Medium weightyearling heifers to feed hit 165c and averaged 148c/kg.

A few grown steers sold between 163c and 169c/kg. Light conditioned 2 score cows reached 99c and sold as low as 57c, while most averaged around 83c/kg. The medium weight 3 score cows earned to 129c and averaged 120c, while heavy weight 4 score cows sold to 135c/kg. 

 

Weekly Roma Store Sale press report:

A total of 6900 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 189c/kg and averaged 159c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 181c/kg and averaged 157c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 186c/kg and averaged 163c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 184c/kg and averaged 170c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 187c/kg and averaging 175c/kg.

The 4th Annual Watkins & Co’s Braford Infused Sale was held in conjunction with the Roma Store Sale. Total Braford heifers penned to 168 head and averaged 149c/kg and $462/head. Total Braford steers to 199 head of 166c/kg and $460.

S & M Phelps, Wilga View, Miles, sold Angus steers to 187c/kg for 187kg to return $351/head.

M & D Duncan, Midwinter, Injune, sold Angus-cross steers to 186c for 441kg to return $822.

Bangor Cattle Co, Bangor, Mungallala, sold Charolais-cross steers to 186c for 322kg to return $600.

R O’Brien, Tyrone, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 183c for 477kg to return $873.

N & J Henricks, Garfield, Injune, sold Angus-cross steers to 183c for 437kg to return $801.

A & J Haye, Moonya, Wandoan, sold Braford steers to 181c for 345kg to return $625.

Munaweena Partnership, Myall, Roma, sold Santa-cross steers to 181c for 285kg to return $517. 

Lyndale Grazing, Lyndale, Roma, sold Simbrah steers to 181c for 224kg to return $406.

The Gully Partnership, The Gully, Moree, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 178c for 327kg to return $584.
Stagmount Grazing Co, Stagmount, Aramac, sold Santa-cross steers to 178c for 258kg to return $460. The Santa heifers to 145c for 273kg to return $396.

Craig Bischoff, Woodlands, Injune, sold Angus steers to 177c for 471kg to return $835.

H, D, & J Stewart, Wycombe, St George, Braford steers to 177c for 316kg to return $559. The Braford heifers to 152c for 340kg to return $517. 

W Proud & D Brumpton, Scattering Plains, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 175c for 320kg to return $560.  

Noogilla Cattle Co, Woodlands, Mitchell, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 172c for 487kg to return $839. 

Margarita Kehl, Hillview, Wallumbilla, sold Braford steers to 171c for 316kg to return $542. The Braford heifers to 150c for 330kg to return $495. 

Glengraco Grazing Co, Glenray, Yuleba, sold Hereford-cross steers to 168c for 201kg to return $338. The Hereford-cross heifers to 132c for 236kg to return $311. 

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 165c/kg and averaged 119c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 155c/kg and averaged 129c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at

145c/kg and averaged 127c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 138c/kg and averaged 112c/kg.

B Talyor, Fairlands, Wallumbilla, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 146c for 315kg to return $460. 

S & L Reiser, Tocal, Mitchell, sold Charolais heifers to 140c for 276kg to return $387.

Cows over 500kg sold to 135c/kg and averaged 122c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at 134c/kg and averaged 96c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 106c/kg and averaged 74c/kg.

Angus-cross and Santa-cross cows and calves topped at $550/unit and $570/unit, while the remaining mix of cows and calves averaged $412.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 162c/kg and average 113c/kg.
