Yarding 9179 Change -1417

A mix of good quality cattle and sorts from western regions were penned. Yarding numbers remained high with good numbers of local weaner steers and heifers consigned. Large numbers of restocker buyers were at the sale, while competition remained solid between the usual panel of feedlot buyers.

Cows and calves sold to $1430 and averaged $1087/unit. Steer calves sold to 354c and averaged 334c, up 28c, while heifer calves hit 290c and averaged 276c, up 7c/kg. Light weight yearling steers topped at 330c and averaged 311c, while slightly heavier sorts topped at 320c and averaged 306c, up 10c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed earned to 308c and averaged 276c, down 12c, and those returning to the paddock made to 326c and averaged 301c, up 9c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 314c and averaged 286c, down 3c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restocker buyers made to 294c and averaged between 257c and 278c/kg. Those to feedlot buyers hit 242c and averaged 226c, down 18c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 270c and averaged 239c, down 7c, while those to restockers hit 294c and averaged 260c, up 8c/kg. Grown steers to feed reached 276c and averaged between 261c and 268c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows topped at 235c and averaged 219c, down 5c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows made to 254c and averaged 245c, up 7c/kg.

A total of 9179 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 354c/kg and averaged 311c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 338c/kg and averaged 307c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 329c/kg and averaged 293c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 304c/kg and averaged 279c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 314c/kg and averaging 291c/kg.
