Numbers yarded increased, with a mix of fair to plainer cattle penned. Good lines of light weight yearling steers were snapped up by restocker buyers, but plainer sorts only attracted limited restocker interest.

Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed were 5c/kg cheaper on average and domestic feeder weight heifers followed a similar price trend. Light weight yearling heifers were 1c to 9c/kg dearer, with solid competition from feedlot, restocker, and southern processor buyers. Cows and calves sold to $1,380 and averaged $681/unit.

Light weight yearling steers topped at 293c and averaged 270c, while slightly heavier lines reached 296c and averaged 263c, up 6c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed earned to 266c and averaged 249c, down 5c, while heavy weight yearling steers to feed hit 267c and averaged 250c, down 5c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers returned to the paddock at up to 264c and averaged between 229c and 235c, up 9c/kg. Those to feedlot buyers sold to 248c and averaged between 226c and 229c, while those to processors topped at 222c and averaged 211c, down 9c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 248c and averaged 222c, down 9c, while heavy weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 243c and averaged 233c, down 2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows reached 195c and averaged 165c, while medium weight 3 score cows averaged between 197c and 205c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows sold to 216c/kg.

Roma heavy weaner steers make 296c/kg

A total of 8600 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 293c/kg and averaged 257c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 289c/kg and averaged 259c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 296c/kg and averaged 252c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 268c/kg and averaged 247c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 268c/kg and averaging 244c/kg.

Currawarra Pastoral Co, Currawarra, Mitchell, sold EU Santa-cross steers to 289c for 267kg to return $773. The Santa heifers sold to 238c for 209kg to return $498.

Bryce Rolfe, Nindinna, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 286c for 283kg to return $811.

Charlie Pye, Gingie Pastoral Co, Oak Park, Charleville, sold Brangus steers to 286c for 253kg to return $724.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 248c/kg and averaged 225c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 248c/kg and averaged 213c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 246c/kg and averaged 220c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 258c/kg and averaged 224c/kg.
