AuctionsPlus cattle offerings this week totalled 15,775 head – 19pc lower than last week’s ten-week high of 19,477 head.
Seasonally offerings were still well above the corresponding week last year, up 42pc, with overall average clearance rates remaining strong even in the wake of the higher annual numbers.
While most prices across the key indicative categories declined this week, they are still well above any previous period on record, especially for the lightest lines.
The largest category offered this week, steers 200-280kg, with 2068 head registered, averaged 12c/kg higher for the week, at 621c, with an 82pc clearance.
A line of 125 weaned Shorthorn and Shorthorn cross steers (pictured above) 6-8 months averaging 219kg from Lansdowne Pastoral Co out of Tambo, Queensland made 711.7c/kg to return $1560, while a further 110 of their slightly older brothers averaging 288kg at 8-10 months made 607.6c/kg or $1750.
Out of Inverell, NSW, 58 weaned Angus heifers 195kg at 9-10 months made 861.9c, while 53 of their steer brothers 197kg made 829.5c/kg.
Both the 280-330kg and 330-400kg steer categories fell 31c/kg on average this week, despite a 97pc clearance for the 1489 head offered on the heavier of the categories.
A very limited selection of heavy steers had the 400kg+ category up 16c/kg on last week, averaging 499c/kg. Out of Condobolin, NSW, 75 Angus feeder steers, averaging 409kg, sold to 596.6c, or $2440.
Excellent clearance rates were again registered this week for the five young heifer categories, ranging from 85pc for 1823 head of 280-330kg lines, to 96pc for the very limited supply of heifers less than 200kg. 330-400kg heifers averaged 15c lower this week, at 546c, while the heaviest lines averaged 24c lower, at 464c – albeit with only 301 head offered.
Some breeding lines took a step back in price this week – reflective largely of quality and some reported buyer hesitancy. The 1388 PTIC heifers offered this week dropped 5c/kg, averaging 569c – with a subdued 60pc clearance rate for the 1388 head offered.
PTIC cows averaged 15c higher for the week, at 458c, while the 596 head of SM cows with CAF lost most of last week’s gains, dropping $98, to average $3,012/head.
A line of 34 NSM Shorthorn future breeders pictured above, 333kg at 12-14 months out of Willow Tree NSW, made $2200 or 661.5c/kg.
