Much smaller online offering meets stronger competition

This line of 86 Angus steers 12-13 months averaging 346kg from Willow Tree, NSW returned $841/head or 243c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Clunes, NSW. A further 88 heifer sisters 342kg made 206.3c.

COMMERCIAL cattle listings on Elders’ and Nutrien’s AuctionsPlus online marketing platform declined another 32 percent this week to 5479 head.

Stronger competition was spurred by the smaller offering, with a 78pc clearance, a 19 percentage point rise on last week.

Despite significant reductions in the number of heavier lines of steers offered, prices were down for steers 330–400kg and for steers greater than 400kg. Heifer lines all achieved stronger prices, except for heifers 280-330kg. A 29pc lower offering across all breeding stock categories resulted in stronger prices across most categories, except for PTIC heifers and PTIC cows.

Steers 280-330kg registered a larger offering of 1045 head and averaged 253c/kg – up 5c from last week for an 84pc clearance. Prices ranged from 174-284c. From Tambo, QLD 41 Santa steers 9-12 months averaging 300kg returned $850/head or 284c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Charleville, QLD.

Steers 330-400kg registered a smaller offering of 722 head and averaged 233c/kg, down 6c from last week for a 76pc clearance. Prices ranged from 201-273c. From Willow Tree, NSW a line of 86 Angus steers 12-13 months averaging 346kg returned $841/head or 243c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Clunes, NSW. A further 88 heifer sisters 342kg made 206.3c.

Heifers 200-280kg registered a smaller offering of 518 head and averaged 198c/kg, up 15cfrom last week for a 94pc clearance. Prices ranged from 160-227c. From Sodwalls, NSW 72 Angus heifers 13-14 months averaging 247kg returned 215c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Wombat, NSW.

Heifers 280-330kg registered a larger offering of 627 head and averaged 204c/kg – up 10cfrom last week for a 96pc clearance. Prices ranged from 159-251c. From Coleraine, VIC 52 Angus heifers 13-14 months averaging 319kg returned 204c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Yea, VIC.

Breeding females

PTIC cows registered a larger offering compared to last week with 174 head, however demand was subdued for a clearance of just 10pc, at an average of $814/head – down $266 from last week. From Raleigh, NSW 12 Angus/Charolais cows 2-8 years averaging 583kg returned $820 and will travel to a buyer near Moree, NSW.

SM cows & calves registered a smaller offering of 277 head and averaged $1266/head – up $260 from last week for a 96pc clearance. From Rowena, NSW 50 Angus/Hereford cows 36-40 months averaging 495kg returned $1800 and will travel to a buyer near Narrabri, NSW.
