MOST young cattle and breeding female categories lifted in price in online trading this week, in an AuctionsPlus offering of 14,916 head, up 22pc from last week.
Clearance rate dropped ten percentage points to 66pc.
Listings from Queensland halved compared to the previous week and NSW also offered more than 1000 head less. Purchases from both states were significantly quieter this week. All states recorded less buys.
Processor activity increased, with the purchase of 13pc of the sold offering, up from 9pc.
Three steer categories enjoyed price increases of 30-50c/kg this week.
Among the more substantial offerings, steers 200-280kg saw 2600 entries, averaging 400c/kg, up 32c/kg from last week. Clearance was 78pc.
Steers 280-330kg saw a catalogue of 2034 head, with prices unchanged form last week average 381c/kg.
Steers 330-400kg offered 1200 head, averaging 364c, down 5c on last week, while the +400kg steers – having plummeted $166/head last week, lifted 30c/kg to average 382c.
From Inverell, NSW, a line of 33 Angus steers 7-8 months averaging 245kg, returned 460c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Glen Innes, NSW.
Heifers
Most heifer categories lifted in price this week, with the exception of a handful of sub-200kg entries which lost 12c/kg to average 263c
The 1750 heifers catalogued in the 200-280kg range lifted 30c to average 317c/kg, while heifers 280-330kg jumped 102c to average 390c/kg. The price increase was distorted by an offering of 55 Fullblood Wagyu heifers 12-18 months averaging 294kg from Murgon Qld averaging 885c/kg.
Heifers 330-400kg lifted 14c to average 328c, while a handful of heavy heifers +400kg lifted 34c to average 332c.
From Denman, NSW, 42 Angus heifers 20-21 months averaging 388kg returned 343c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Quirindi, NSW.
Among larger lines of young cattle offered this week, 139 Charolais and Charolais cross weaned steers 6-14 months averaging 309kg from Winton QLD made 366c/kg, and 288 Droughtmaster weaned steers 6-8 months averaging 254kg from Clermont, Central QLD made 395c/kg or $1000.
Further south, 217 Angus weaners 7-9 months from Toobeah southern QLD made 437c for the steer portion averaging 261kg and 335c for the heifers averaging 239kg.
Breeding females
Breeding females recorded some big jumps in value this week. SM heifers values grew by an average of $527 but were outdone by two small lines of PTIC Charolais and Charolais x Senepol cows and calves, from Cobrabald River Stud, at Gulargambon which resulted in a week-on-week change of more than $1000/head.
