Heifers stronger in value in 17,500 head AuctionsPlus offering

This line of 50 Angus heifers 21-22 months averaging 434kg from Khancoban, VIC, returned $1800 or 415c/kg on Friday, and will travel to a buyer near Boorowa, NSW.

 

MOST steer and heifer weight categories – especially heifers – mounted a strong price rally in online trading this week, where listing numbers were virtually the same as the week before at 17,507 head.

Clearance rate was marginally up, at 67pc.

NSW producers offered 3000 less head this week, but listing increases were recorded in Queensland and Victoria. There were no big movers and shakers in the purchasing breakdown, with a drop of 320 head by Queensland and increase of 408 in Victoria the largest changes.

The only steer category to experience a decline in c/kg price averages was a small offering of less than 200kg steers, which fell 39cx/kg to average 405c.

The mid-weight steers categories edged higher, while the heavyweight feeders +400kg, offering 1299 head, lifted 20c/kg to average 352c.

Steers 200-280 attracted a large 2910 head offering, drifting 3c higher than the previous week averaging 387c.

A line of 58 Angus steers 7-10 months and averaging 223kg from Armidale, NSW returned $1055/head or 473c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Willow Tree, NSW.

Steers 280-330kg attracted a catalogue of 2428 head, lifting 1c to average 366c/kg, while 1760 head of 330-400kg steers also lifted a cent to average 359c/kg.

Heifers

The real gains were seen in the heifer market, with solid gains across all five weight categories. Clearances ranged from 61pc to 80pc.

The biggest jumps were seen in the 280-300kg heifer category, lifting 104c/kg for the 10128 head offered, producing a 61pc clearance.

Heifers 200-280kg (1217 head offering, clearing 91pc) lifted 12c in average value, to 318c/kg

From Mumbannar, SA, 80 Angus heifers 10-12 months averaging 322kg returned $985/head or 306c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Colbinabbin, VIC.

Breeding females

There were some improvements to breeding stock prices this week, with five of eight categories showing some price improvement. Numbers were limited in some descriptions.

Biggest drops were seen in a small offering of PTIC heifers, down 127c/kg or $913 a head on the previous week. Best outcomes was seen in station mated heifers, up $263 a head to average $1685,and a small offering of SM cows & calves, up $493 to average $2197.
