Heifers show some gains in 15,050 head AuctionsPlus offering

This line of 112 Angus steers 6-8 months averaging 308kg from Coolatai, NSW returned $1470/head or 478c/kg on Friday, and will travel to a buyer near Miles, QLD. A further 61 of their heifer sisters 295kg made 367c/kg or $1080.

 

STEER prices stabilised, while some heifers showed improvements in an offering of 15,050 head on Elders and Nutrien’s AuctionsPlus online platform on Friday.

Breeding female categories were mostly cheaper, especially unmated cows and calves.

Apart from sub-200kg steer and heifer categories where offerings were very light, young cattle clearances remained subdued, ranging from 28pc to 58pc.

Heavy feeder steers +400kg lifted 6c/kg on last week to average 382c/kg, but cleared just 33pc of the offering of 1262 head.

The heifer market displayed better resilience, with two categories recording gains. Heifers 200-280kg attracted 907 entries, clearing 53pc to average 364c, up 48c on last week. Heifers 280-330kg attracted 1892 head, clearing 54pc to average 329c/kg, up 12c on the previous week.

Among breeding females, station-mated cows and calves attracted 1002 pairs, gained $22 to averaging $2121/pair, highlighting buyer preference for known pregnancies. Among the 1300 PTIC heifers offered, only 32pc cleared, adding $79 to average $1738.

From Dungog, NSW 21 Angus steers 5-8 months averaging 242kg returned $1250/head or 517c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Walcha, NSW.

Seventy six Santa heifers 8-10 months averaging 266kg from Taroom, Qld returned $925/head or 348c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Goondiwindi, Qld.

Further north, among larger offerings, 278 Santa weaned heifers 239kg at 8-12 months from Rolleston, Central Qld made 385c/kg or $920 a head.
