Heifer prices stronger in larger AuctionsPlus offering

Cows with calves at foot where in high supply this week with 2500 head offered. Prices increased by $93 to average $1226, selling from $550 to $1890. Top price received was for this line of 37 Poll Hereford cows and calves from Penola, SA.

HEIFERS and some young steer categories trended stronger in price on the AuctionsPlus online marketing platform this week, despite a larger offering.

Supply increased by 2582 head or 39 percent on the previous week, to total 9152 head. Supply was mostly driven by the NSW Northern tablelands which represented 24pc of the catalogue. The main buying regions were Southern NSW, Northern Victoria and Central and Southern Queensland.

https://www.nh-foods.com.au/Light steers less than 280kg sold from 181c to 341c this week, to average 280c. Top price was returned by a line of 39 weaned steers 6-9 months averaging 230kg from Mount Pleasant, SA, which will travel to Keith, SA.

Steers 280-330kg received some stronger prices compared with the previous week, selling from 251-356c/kg and averaging 309c, up 22c. A line of 103 weaned steers from Stonyford, VIC returned the top price. These steers were 13-14 months averaging 285kg and will travel to Camperdown, VIC.

Steers 330-400kg sold from 280-319c and averaged 304c, up 4c. Top price was returned for a line of 60 Angus feeders steers 392kg at 12-13 months of age from Oberon, NSW, which will travel to Walcha, NSW.

There was one line tipping the scales in the +400kg category – a line of 37 weaned Angus steers 414kg at 12-14 months from Wagga Wagga, which sold for 312c.

Heifers less than 200kg sold from 207-279c this week, averaging 243c, down 6c. Top price was returned by a line of 72 Angus x Hereford x Charolais cross heifers 178kg at 6-8 months from Bundarra, NSW, which will travel to Korumburra, VIC.

Heifers 200-280kg sold from 127-278c this week, averaging 234c, which is firm on last week. Top price was returned by a line of 24 weaned heifers 223kg at 6-9 months from Mount Pleasant, SA, which will travel to Springton, SA.

Heifers 280-330kg sold from 259-290c this week and averaged 278c, up 9c. Top price was returned by a line of backgrounder heifers from North Scottsdale, TAS. These Shorthorn x Murray Grey x Angus cross heifers were 293kg at 12-13 months and will travel to Launceston.

Heavy heifers above 330kg sold from 283-296c this week and averaged 290c. Top price was returned for a line of 23 NSM heifers from North Scottsdale, TAS. These Shorthorn x Angus heifers were 13-14 months averaging 334kg and will travel to Launceston.

Top price received was for a line of 37 Poll Hereford cows and calves from Penola, SA. These cows were 553kg, three to five years, with 5-6 month old calves at foot sired by Poll Hereford and Angus bulls. Other highlights included; 33 NSM mixed age Angus x Santa cows with Santa and Angus-sired calves at foot from Jimbour, QLD, returning $1140.

Part of a line of 84 Droughtmaster x Shorthorn steers 12-22 months averaging 325kg from Quilpie, western Queensland, which made $815 or 250.5c/kg yesterday

In a breakdown of young cattle sold this week, by weight range:

Under 200kg: Steers sold from 181-339c to average 308c, while heifers sold from 206-279c to average 249c

200-280kg: Steers sold from 213-341c to average 272c, while heifers sold from 211-278c to average 238c

280-330kg: Steers sold from 250-356c to average 310c, while heifers sold from 258-290c to average 276c

330-400kg: Steers sold from 280-319c to average 299c, while heifers sold from 283-296c to average 288c

400+kg: Steers sold for 311c.
