Heavier steers lift 20-30c in 9586 head AuctionsPlus offering

Part of a line of 138 Angus and Angus cross heifers 14-18 months averaging 365kg from Coonabarabran, NSW which made 290c/kg this week.

STEER prices trended up on AuctionsPlus this week, especially for heavier descriptions, which averaged 20-30c/kg higher than last week.

Overall cattle numbers were down slightly for a total listing of 9586 head, down 3pc on the previous week.

There was strong buyer interest in the Eastern States sale, reaching a 71pc clearance. While interest was still strong in the Weaner and Yearling sale with 476 bidders logging in, the clearance rate was only 55pc.

Joined heifers sold from $560 to $1050 this week, averaging $865. Top price went to a line of Angus heifers from Lewinsbrook, NSW, 18-20 months averaging 386kg and PTIC to KO Angus bulls.

Proven breeders sold from $810 to $1400 this week, averaging $1045. Top price went to a line of four-year old 612kg Angus cows from Grenfell, NSW, PTIC to Angus bulls. Other highlights included a line of three year old Droughtmaster cows, 462kg and PTIC to Simmental, Charolais and Droughtmaster bulls from Rolleston, QLD which sold for $1200.

Cows with calves at foot numbers this week almost doubled, with 837 head being listed, with a 70pc clearance. Prices ranged from $610 to $1570, averaging $1170. Top price went to a line pf Angus cows 24 months averaging 448kg from Scone, NSW, with Angus calves at foot. From Kynuna, QLD a line of crossbred cows 20-32 months averaging 386kg, and calves at foot sold for $1160. The cows were rejoined to Brangus, Charbray and Droughtmaster bulls.

Light steers less than 200kg averaged 304c/kg, down 13c on last week. Top price of 373c/kg went to a line of Angus steers 10-12 months averaging 166kg from Springfield, TAS.

Steers 200–280kg averaged 322c/kg, steady on last week. Top price of 370c went to the heavier line of Angus steers from Springfield, TAS. Other highlights include a line of Angus steers 275kg from Moss Vale, NSW selling for 335c; and Angus steers 256kg from Mangoplah, NSW selling for 361c.

Steers 280-330kg averaged 340c/kg this week, up by 23c. Top price went to a line of Hazeldean and Mandayan blood Angus steers 8-10 months averaging 313kg from Geranium, SA which sold for 368c/kg. Poll Shorthorn steers 296kg from Mole Creek, TAS sold for 357c; while Angus steers 291kg from Walcha, NSW sold for 356c.

Steers heavier than 330kg averaged 340c/kg this week, up a massive 36c. Top price of 353c went to a line of Angus steers 11-12 months averaging 337kg from Bungendore, NSW. Other highlights included Angus steers 375kg from Railton, TAS selling for 352c; Angus steers 358kg from Wagga Wagga, NSW selling for 342c and a line of Poll Hereford steers 382kg from Gerogery, NSW selling for 322c.

Light heifers less than 200kg averaged 257c this week, down 11c. Top price went to Angus and Murray Grey heifers 10-12 months averaging 175kg from Springfield, TAS, which sold for 309c. Other highlights included Angus heifers 171kg from Euchareena, NSW selling for 246c and Hereford heifers 147kg from Balranald, NSW selling for 242c.

Heifers 200-280kg averaged 262c this week, down 4c. Top price went to Poll Shorthorn heifers 10-12 months averaging 277kg from Mole Creek, TAS, which sold for 325c. Other highlights included Angus heifers 265kg from Woodside, VIC selling for 303c.

Heifers 280-330kg averaged 280c this week, up 17c. Top price of 324c/kg went to a line of Angus heifers 12-13 months averaging 327kg from Railton, TAS. Other highlights include Angus heifers 295kg from Geranium, SA selling for 316c.

Heifers more than 330kg averaged 285c this week, down 22c. Top price of 290c/kg went to a line of 138 Angus and Angus cross heifers 14-18 months averaging 365kg from Coonabarabran, NSW.

Less than 200kg: Steers sold from 258c to 373c to average 304c, while heifers sold from 227c to 309c to average 257c

200-280kg: Steers sold from 212c to 370c to average 322c, while heifers sold from 215c to 325c to average 262c

280-330kg: Steers sold from 163c to 368c to average 340c, while heifers sold from 260c to 324c to average 280c

330-400kg: Steers sold from 310c to 353c to average 340c, while heifers sold from 262c to 290c to average 285c
