BUYER attendance was generally good with the return of all major export processors, plus the usual trade and feeder operators, and local and interstate restockers.

Southern restockers were the major buyers in the market, with over 1,000 head purchased by interstate operators, with some going as far south as Victoria.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock were well supplied and continued to improve in price.

Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged 9c/kg better in places. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed experience very little change in price.

However most classes of yearling heifers were noticeably dearer, with the largest samples gaining 5c to 16c/kg.

Cows to processors sold to a dearer trend of 4c to 13c/kg. Cows returning to the paddock continued to receive very strong support from local and interstate restockers.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top of 528.2c, with a large selection averaging 454c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 405c to 412c with isolated sales to 444c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 410.2c to average 390c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg made to 482c to average 464c/kg.

Yearling heifers under 280kg made to 464c to average 434c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed averaged close to the steer portion with most sales making from 393c to 412c with the occasional sale to 434c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 361c and made to 370c/kg. Medium weight grown steers to feed made to 376c to average 346c/kg.

A small selection of bullocks made to 340c/kg.

Plain condition cows returning to the paddock averaged from 245c to 258c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows to processors averaged 251c and 3 scores 261c/kg. Good heavy weight cows made to 279c to average 277c/kg.

Heavy weight bulls made 310c/kg.

GDL report

A good strong panel of buyers covering all categories. Some heavy bulls and steers had plenty of competition between the live export & processors. Southern orders for the store cattle are still very strong. All categories were dearer by 5c to 12c.
