Dalby Sale 31 Oct 2018: Yarding increases 30 percent

Yarding 6267 Change 1842

The supply of stock lifted by 1,842 head to 6,267, and cattle were drawn from a wide area of the state.

Export processor attendance was good and included some additional exporters in the buying panel, along with the usual feeder operators and a large contingent of restocker buyers.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 7c/kg dearer. Medium weight yearling steers to feed experienced a small improvement in price, while the heavy weights averaged 11c/kg better in places.

Light weight yearling heifers to restockers or background improved in price by 5c, with some well bred lines, going on to make future breeders, lifting by over 30c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold to a market 13c/kg better. Heavy grown steers and bullocks to export processors averaged 2c to 11c/kg dearer. Cows experienced a mixed trend, with the plain condition cows firm to 5c dearer, however good heavy cows averaged 9c/kg cheaper.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock were well supplied and averaged 312c, with sales to 342.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 324.2c, with the largest sample averaging 307c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to 326.2c, with most making close to 308c/kg. A large supply of light weight yearling heifers made to 298.2c to average 276c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 316.2c, with a fairly large selection averaging approximately 280c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 295.2c to average 280c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export processors made to 320.2c to average 312c and the bullock portion also made to 320.2c to average 307c/kg.

A few heavy export heifers made to 294.2c to average 288c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 214c and made to 221.2c, while the best of the medium weights made to 254.2c to average 250c/kg. Good heavy cows mostly sold close to 255c, with the occasional sale to 270.2c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 276.2c/kg.

Light weight steers topped at 342.2c/kg to average 305.1c/kg.  Heavy cows topped at 254.2c/kg and heavy heifers topped 294.2c/kg.  Feeder heifers topped at 295.2c/kg.
