Dalby Sale 7 Nov 2018: Western, interstate cattle add to yarding

Cattle were drawn from a wide area with 1570 from far Western Queensland and 160 from NSW and 171 head from South Australia.

Export buyer attendance was not as good as the previous sale, however a large panel of feeder buyers were operating along with some restockers.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock could not maintain the levels of the previous sale and lost 5c to 10c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed lifted in price by 2c to 5c and the largest sample of heavy weights to feed averaged 3c/kg better.

Light weight yearling heifers to restockers or background averaged 15c to 22c/kg cheaper, however some of the losses could be attributed to the quality penned. The better end of the medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 2c less, while a poor condition lines averaged 15c/kg cheaper.

Heavy grown steers and bullocks generally sold to firm demand. However, cows sold to a cheaper trend to lose 3c to 9c/kg. A large supply of light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 302c and made to 336.2c, while poor quality lines mostly sold around 250c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 324.2c, with most around 309c to 313c/kg. The largest sample of heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 322.2c to average 311c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers made to 274.2c to average 254c, and poor quality lines averaged 228c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 272c and the better lines made to 305.2c to average 281c/kg. Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 313.2c to average 309c, and the bullock portion made to 315c to average 311c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 210c and made to 220c, while the best of the medium weights made to 248.2c/kg. A large sample of good heavy cows averaged 251c, with a few sales to 259.2c/kg.
