Dalby sale 24 March 2021: Fully firm for reduced numbers

Beef Central, 25/03/2021

Yarding 1205 Change -779

Continuing useful falls of rain across most parts of the usual supply area reduced numbers down by 778 head to 1,205 at Dalby.

Buyer attendance was generally good with all operators keen to purchase a market share, and prices improved across a number of categories.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 19c/kg better.

Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market improved by a similar amount, and heavy weight yearling steers to feed experienced very little change in price. Most classes of yearling heifers were also in demand.

Cows received price improvements across the board with gains of 7c to 9c/kg and considerably more on restocker lines.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to the occasional 700c, with a fair sample averaging 575c/kg. A fair sample of yearling steers in the 330-400kg range returning to the paddock made to 548.2c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market made to 492.2c to average 465c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 423c and made to 444.2c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock or background made to the occasional 625c to average 553c/kg. A small sample of heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 409c, and a couple to the trade made to 420c/kg. Heavy weight cows returning to the paddock made to 329.2c/kg the heaviest returning $2043/head. Medium weight 3 score cows to export processors averaged 290c and made to 295c/kg.

Good heavy weight cows made to 308c with a fair sample averaging 306c/kg.
