Dalby sale 28 July 2021: Firm demand for 3580

Yarding 3580 Change -257

Numbers remain firm at Dalby with a total yarding of 3,580 head, down by 257 head.

A good buying panel was present and operating including export processors, feedlots and local and interstate restockers.

Cattle were drawn from the usual supply area and the yarding quality was similar to the previous week.

Heavy weight yearling steers were present in good numbers.

Demand remained firm with strong buyer competition however overall prices eased for steers and heifers with the exception of light weight yearling steers and medium weight yearling heifers, while heavy weight prime cows improved.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg improved by 115c and medium weight yearling steers fell by 8c to 10c/kg. The lead of the heavy weight yearling steers to feed fell by 19c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed improved by 12c to 14c/kg. Medium weight 4 score prime cows improved by 7c while the heavy weight cows improved by 3c to 6c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers sold to 698c to average 665c/kg. The largest sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 656c, while medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 662c to average 568c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 600c to average 515c while heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 516c to average 480c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg made to a top of 644c, while the largest sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 612c to average 544c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 568c to average 529c and medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 522c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 492c to average 429c/kg.

The best of the medium weight grown steers to feed sold to 438c to average 405c while the best of the grown heifers reached a top of 410c to average 405c/kg. Medium weight 4 score cows sold to a top of 350c to average 332c, while heavy weight 4 score cows sold to a top of 351c to average 341c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 350c to average 334c/kg.

The limited supply of cows and calves reached a top of $3,050/unit.

There were some good quality lines especially cows, yearlings and weaner cattle. All exporters, feedlotters, backgrounders, restockers and southern orders were present and competing strongly.  Good young heavy bullocks for processors made up to 396.2c.
