Numbers almost doubled the previous weeks level. The overall quality was very mixed with close to 2,500 head from Western Queensland as well is a few from South Australia and NSW with the majority from local areas. Light weight yearling heifers to feed or background averaged 14c better and medium weights to feed gained 5c to 12c/kg. Heavy grown steers and bullocks to export slaughter averaged around 8c/kg dearer. Plain condition cows experienced very little change against the improvements of the previous week, however the better end of the cows lifted in price by 7c to 13c/kg.

Very poor condition steer calves to restockers averaged 372c while the better lines made to 410c to average 378c/kg. Heifer calves made to 330.2c with a fair sample around 310c/kg. Grant Daniel Long report:

6220 cattle were yarded today an increase of 3500 on last week’s sale. Plain store condition cattle still being yarded from Western NSW, South Australia, Birdsville, Quilpie and Windorah are meeting solid competition. Light condition cows and calves are making $900 to $1,400. Plain condition Shorthorn steers sold for 366.2c, average 199.3kg, $730 and Shorthorn cows sold for 215c average 443kg, $953. Last week saw some good rainfall in the local area 26mm to 100mm which has helped the local market. –  Joe Lehman,GDL  Dalby
