Dalby sale 25 Sep 2024: Feeder prices firm, cows cheaper

Trevor Hess 26/09/2024

Yarding 6191 Change  + 569

The trend of larger numbers continued at Dalby with the supply of stock increasing by 569 head to 6191.

Export buyer attendance was good and all were operating along with the regular feed and trade buyers and restockers.

Light weight yearling steers under 280kg returning to the paddock experienced very little change in price. However a lift in the standard of the under 330kg lines improved average prices. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market generally sold to a firm demand. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed received a small improvement in price.

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock averaged 15c/kg cheaper and yearling heifers to feed remained firm.

A good selection of heavy grown steers and bullocks averaged 2c to 5c/kg dearer.

However all classes of cows sold to a cheaper trend and lost the previous weeks gains to average 3c to 11c/kg less.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers averaged from 402c to 405c with sales to 438c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged from 368c to 372c with sales to 396c/kg. A large selection of heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 376c with a few pens to 400c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock averaged from 278c to 310c with a few sales to 334c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 358c to average 322c and heavy weights made to 356c to average 323c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export processors made to 363c and the bullock portion made to 359c to average 345c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 255c and sold to 275c/kg.

Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 283c and the best of the cows made to 312c to average 300c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 316c/kg.
