Dalby Sale 22 Aug 2018: Rain prediction lifts buyer activity

Beef Central, 23/08/2018

Video market report from Ray White Eastern Rural’s Peter Bird

Yarding 3131 Change -1267

The supply of stock reduced by 29pc and apart from 230 head drawn from far Western Queensland plus the 200 head from NSW, the remainder were received from the local supply areas.

A fair panel of buyers was present and most were operating. The prediction of some rain resulted in increased buyer activity, with most classes going to a dearer trend.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 10c better and medium weights to feed improved by 15c/kg. There were not enough heavy weight yearling steers going to feeders to reliably quote. All classes of yearling heifers improved in price with gains of 8c to 20c/kg.

Heavy grown steers and bullocks lifted in price by 5c to 6c/kg. A fairly large selection of cows sold to market from 5c to 9c/kg better. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 269c and made to 288.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 264c and made to 276.2c/kg. Heavy yearling steers to the trade made to 288.2c and averaged 278.2c/kg.

Light weight heifers to restockers or backgrounders made to 236.2c, with a large selection averaging 217c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 230c and the heavy weights averaged 246c/kg. Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 278.2c to average 265c and the bullock portion made to 281.2c to average 271c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 171c and made to 181.2c/kg.

A relatively large sample of good heavy cows made to 227.2c to average 215c/kg. Heavy bulls made to an isolated 270c with most making around 245c/kg.
