Yarding 6929 Change 1638
Numbers increased by 1,638 head to 6,929, and included in the larger line up was 1,761 head from far Western Queensland, plus 114 from NSW with the balance from the usual local supply areas.
Buyer attendance was generally good and most were active across all classes. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock experienced very little change. The medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to within 1c to 3c/kg of the previous week. The better end of the light weight yearling heifers sold to firm demand, while lesser quality lines averaged 13c/kg less. Plain condition heavy grown steers averaged 9c/kg cheaper, while the better end experienced no change. Prices for bullocks varied according to quality to average 9c/kg less. Once again a very large number of cows came forward and prices remained to within 3c/kg of the improved prices of the previous sale. Steer calves returning to the paddock averaged 263c and the heifer calves mostly sold around 200c/kg. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top of 296.2c with a good sample averaging 273c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to a top of 307.2c with a large selection averaging 290c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged in the 280c range with sales to 307.2c/kg. The better end of the light weight yearling heifers averaged 233c and made to 248.2c, while poor quality lines generally sold around 200c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 260c and made to 270.2c, and heavy weights to feed averaged close to 250c and made to 260c/kg. A few to the local trade market made to 273.2c to average 262c/kg. The younger end of the heavy grown steers made to 311.2c to average 293c/kg. The bullock portion averaged 288c with some younger lines reaching 311.2c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 207c and made to 223.2c, and the best of the medium weights made to 254.2c/kg. Good heavy cows made to 260.2c, with a good sample averaging 253c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 276.2c/kg.

There were 6929 head at this week’s sale. Astaline Pty Ltd & JW Kidd from Windorah had a large line of cattle from young cows to feeder heifers and bullocks thru to good young milk tooth steers.
A large yarding of first round cattle saw cows to 256.2c, bulls to 268.2c & bullocks up to 292.2c.
A smaller line up of second round cattle saw good quality weaners make very similar to previous weeks prices. Tim O’Dwyer,
