Dalby Sale 11 July 2018: Biggest yarding for four months

Beef Central, 12/07/2018

Video market report from Ray White Eastern Rural’s Peter Bird

Yarding 8379 Change 4402

Numbers more than doubled the previous weeks yarding to 8,379 head the highest level since the 14th of March 2018.

Included in the line-up was 1,633 head from far western Queensland plus 214 from New South Wales.

A full panel of buyers was present and operating across all classes.

Light weight yearling steers and heifers returning to the paddock struggled to maintain the levels of the previous week with reductions of 2c to 6c/kg.

However all other classes of yearling steers and heifers to feed improved in price. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 12c better and the heavy weights averaged 3c/kg dearer. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed gained 12c and a handful to the trade averaged 34c/kg dearer.

A relatively small selection of heavy grown steers and bullocks to export slaughter sold close to the previous weeks level. However cows were well supplied and buyers absorbed the larger numbers and lifted price by 5c to 6c/kg on top of the large gains experienced the previous sale.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 318.2c with a fair sample averaging 282c while a large sample of heifer calves were cheaper with most around 204c/kg. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock were well supplied and made to 312.2c to average 279c and poor quality lines averaged 240c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 305.2c to average 289c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold in the mid-280c range with occasional sales to 309.2c/kg.

The better end of the light weight yearling heifers averaged 237c while the lesser quality lines averaged 206c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 284.2c to average 276c and a few to the trade averaged 292c and made to 299.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 272c and made to 282.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 305.2c to average 292c and a few bullocks made to 300.2c/kg. Medium weight poor condition cows returning to the paddock averaged 188c and some better lines made to 210c to average 200c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows to processors averaged 185c and made to 195.2c/kg. A large sample of good heavy cows averaged 235c with the occasional sale to 247.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 256.2c/kg.
