Dalby sale 22 Sep 2021: Yarding lifts with NSW, SA cattle

Beef Central 23/09/2021

Yarding 5056 Change 962

Cattle were once again drawn from a large area, with 285 head from South Australia, a small consignment from New South Wales, plus over 900 head from Far Western Queensland, along with 3,770 head from the usual supply area.

All the local exporter operators were in attendance and active, along with representatives from southern export processors, feeder operators and restockers.

Despite the increase in supply buyers absorbed the larger numbers plus lifted prices in places.

Very light weight young cattle returning to the paddock improved in price by up to 19c/kg.

Yearling steers and heifers to feed for the domestic market experienced very strong support for the quality penned. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers or background received a small improvement in price. A large selection of heavy grown steers and bullocks were firm to 5c/kg better.

Plain condition cows returning to the paddock continued to sell to very solid demand, however export processor lines struggled to maintain the improved prices of the previous week.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg made to 698c with a fair sample averaging 670c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg were well supplied and made to 672c to average 591c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 548c to 573c with a very occasional sale to 654c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 499c and made to 552c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers averaged 570c, however well bred lines ideal for future breeders made to 860c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed averaged from 513c to 530c and sold to a top of 548c/kg. Heavy grown steers to export processors made to 441c with a large sample averaging 431c/kg. A relatively fair sample of bullocks averaged 414c and made to 440c/kg. Medium weight plain condition cows returning to the paddock made to 366c to average 354c/kg.

A large selection of good heavy weight cows to export processors averaged 375c with a very occasional sale to 390c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 374c/kg

Grant Daniel Long report

With the increase in numbers, the market was fully firm to dearer. Full panel of buyers to cover all categories.  Quality was good, a lot of cattle with weight & freshness coming off oats.
