Dalby sale 10 July 2024: Prices improve across most classes

The light falls of rain over parts of the supply area did not deter numbers at Dalby with agents penning an increased number of 4,187 a lift of 937 head.

The export buyers of the previous week returned and similar to the last sale southern processors were the major buyers in the cow section and also provided very strong support on the bullocks.

The regular feed and trade buyers plus restockers were also present and active.

Prices improved across most classes with light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaging 24c/kg better.

Yearling steers to feed lifted in price by 14c to 16c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers sold to a market 14c/kg dearer and yearling heifers to feed gained 4c to 8c/kg.

The bullock portion this week contained some supplementary fed lines resulting in a lift of 30c/kg.

Cows followed the trend of Southern selling centres and gained a further 15c to 20c/kg on top of the improvements experienced the previous sale.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top of 394c to average 353c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged 352c and made to 366c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 356c with a good supply averaging from 338c to 346c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 316c to average 270c/kg. Medium weight four tooth steers to feed averaged 326c and made to the occasional 356c/kg. Bullocks made to a top of 359c to average 346c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 220c and made to 235c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 262c/kg. The best of the heavy weight cows averaged 285c with some young cows making 301c to 304c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 278c/kg.

Numbers increased in Dalby this week. A full and competitive buyers panel was present. Prices increased again, with most classes 10c/kg better and greater in the top draft of cattle. Heavy cows got over 300c/kg with a lot of big frame heavy cows 280 to 290c/kg and a more moderate framed heavy cow 265 to 275c/kg. Heavy bullocks got out to 360kg for 690kg bullocks and feeder steers sold to 356c/kg with a lot of sales between 335 and 345c/kg. Feeder heifers had strong sales to 334c/kg with a lot of good heavy feeder heifers 290 to 300c/kg. Weaner cattle also saw improvements with a lot of steers selling from 350 to 360 c/kg with top lines getting out to 394c/kg. Weaner heifers were very strong with sales to 322c/kg.
