Yarding 6345 Change 1881

Overall quality was not up to the standard of the previous week.

The usual panel of buyers was present, however most were operating very selectively.

A reduction in quality combined with lesser demand resulted in prices easing across a number of categories.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 29c/kg less. Medium weight yearling steers to feed experienced very little change in price, and heavy weights received quality related price changes. Light weight yearling heifers lost 5c to 10c/kg, while yearling heifers to feed for the domestic market sold to firm demand. Heavy grown steers and bullocks generally sold to strong competition for the quality penned.

The large sample of cows could not maintain the levels of the previous week to lose 2c to 9c/kg.

Steer calves returning to the paddock averaged 226c and made to 268.2c, and a small sample of heifer calves averaged 133c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 258c with the occasional pen reaching 284.2c, and poor quality lines mostly sold around 200c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 279c and made to 300c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 288c with the occasional sale to 306.2c, and local trade classes made to 318.2c/kg.

The largest numbers of light weight yearling heifers sold to restockers or background at an average of 210c with sales to 240c, and poor quality lines averaged in the 140c/kg range. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed or restockers mostly sold in the 240c range with some to 268.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to the trade made to the occasional 298.2c to average 265c/kg. Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 329.2c to average 305c, and the bullock portion made to 331.2c to average close to 300c/kg.

Restockers were active in the cow market and medium weights averaged 188c, while some heavier classes averaged 209c made to 216.2c/kg. Medium weight poor condition cows to processors averaged 158c, and made to 178.2c, and the 2 scores averaged 185c and made to 200.2c/kg. Good heavy cows made to 242.2c with most around 232c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 285.2c/kg.
