Beef Central, 30/05/2019

Video market report from Ray White Eastern Rural’s Wyatt Wrigley

Yarding 5182 Change 572

Numbers reduced by 572 head to 5,182, and similar to the previous sale cows dominated the grown cattle section.

Buyer attendance was generally good, with some additional feeders and restockers in the buying panel.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock were well supplied and lifted in price by 6c/kg and more on well bred lines. Medium weight yearling steers to feed sold to a cheaper trend, and heavy weight yearling steers to feed experienced only quality related price changes.

Light weight yearling heifers to restockers or background were well supplied, and buyers absorbed the large numbers plus lifted average prices by 16c/kg. Medium and heavy weight yearling heifers to feed experienced a similar trend to the steer portion.

The younger end of the heavy grown steers and bullocks were in demand and averaged 5c to 9c/kg better. Cows were once again well supplied and average prices for the better end of the cows remained close to firm, while the plain condition classes averaged 5c/kg dearer pushed on by restocker support.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 281.2c to average 245c, and heifer calves made to 209.2c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 255c, with the occasional pen reaching 300c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 260c and made to 286.2c, and heavy weight yearling steers to feed mainly sold close to 280c, with some to 294.2c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 266.2c to average 257c, and processor classes reached 274.2c to average 245c/kg.

Grant Daniel Long report:

The yarding was generally in lighter condition, a lot of drought affected cattle in the market today with good quality cattle still selling well. Bullocks sold well topping at 300c/kg.
