Dalby sale 9 Aug 2023: Prices ease on previous sale

The fair panel of export buyers in attendance included southern operators however one export cow buyer was absent from the buying panel and not all of the regular trade buyers were present.

Prices generally could not maintain the levels of the previous sale. Yearling steers to restockers and feed were firm to a few cents cheaper. Yearling heifers to restockers and feed averaged 4c to 20c/kg less. Cows averaged 5c to 7c cheaper and up to 10c/kg in places.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 350c to average 322c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 336c to 340c and sold to 360c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed remained firm with a large number averaging 340c with sales to 358c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to restockers averaged 221c and made to 254c with poor quality lines at 171c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed averaged from 233c to 267c the occasional sale to 316c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 318c to average 283c with one outstanding pen to the trade at 360c/kg. Bullocks made to 300c to average 291c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows made to 200c to average 181c/kg

. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 210c and made to 218c and the best of the heavy weights made to 241c to average 230c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 278c/kg.

A good yarding of 4798 at Dalby today, with normal export and trade buyers present with the expectation of one major export buyer. Market was firm to a bit cheaper. Heavy cows on average were 5 to 10 cents cheaper.
