Trevor Hess, NLRS 07/09/2023

Yarding 3375 Change -1388

Most of the regular export buyers were in attendance and operating selectively, however one major feed and trade buyer was absent from the buying panel.

Yearling steers to restockers and feed averaged 10c to 15c/kg less. Light weight yearling heifers to returning to the paddock held firm while the medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 11c/kg cheaper. Heavy weight yearling heifers went against this trend and sold to a dearer market.

Cows were firm to 7c/kg less.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to 320c and averaged 283c/kg. Yearling steers under 330kg returning to the paddock also averaged 283c and made to 314c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 302c and averaged 287c/kg. A large sample of heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to a top of 303c to average 275c/kg.

A new boat order was operating at the sale today pushing heavy boat bulls to a top of 246c/kg averaging 220c/kg, your regular heavy bulls to processors dropped to average around 170c/kg topping around $2. The reduced supply of cattle saw the rest of the market holding relatively firm on last week, light weight heifers were even a touch dearer with the best heifers making up to 228c/kg with a lot of weaner heifers from 170 to 190c/kg.
