Dalby sale 25 May 2022: Heavy cows up 10-14c/kg

Beef Central, 26/05/2022

Yarding 1728 Change  -207

There was a small reduction in supply to 1,728 head at Dalby. The largest numbers were drawn from the local supply area, with 252 head from Quilpie and Birdsville, plus 95 from New South Wales.

A fair panel of export buyers was present and active, however one export operator was absent from the buying panel.

The regular feed and trade buyers plus restockers provided strong support across most classes. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed experienced very little change in price. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold to a dearer trend. A fair sample of bullocks averaged 3c/kg better. Cows to export processors improved in price with heavy weights 10c to 14ckg dearer.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top of 764c with a large sample averaging 680c/kg. Yearling steers under 330kg returning to the paddock made to 720c to average 613c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 632c to average 558c, with a good sample returning to the paddock at an average of 594c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 546c to average 523c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock or background made to an isolated 678c with a good sample averaging 567c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed for the domestic market averaged 532c and made to 563c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 438c and a few to the trade averaged 459c/kg.

Bullocks averaged 427c with some to the wholesale meat trade reaching 450c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows to export processors averaged 325c and sold to 340c/kg. Good heavy weight cows made to 393c with a good sample averaging 380c/kg. Heavy weight bulls to processors made to 365c, with one finding a new home at 396c/kg. Cows and calves made to $3,125/unit.
