Dalby sale 30 Nov 2022: Gap widens between good and second rate cattle

Yarding 4997 Change –294

The supply of stock at Dalby experienced a small reduction of 211 head to 4,997. Included in the line up were 817 head from far Western Queensland and 161 from New South Wales plus 127 from South Australia. Export buyer attendance was not as good as the previous week however the regular feed and trade buyers plus restockers were present and operating selectively. Prices continued to ease for a number of classes. The better end of the young cattle averaged 10c cheaper however losses of 20c to 30c/kg was fairly common across the remainder. Cows sold to a mixed trend with plain condition cows experiencing very little change in price while heavy weight cows lost a further 4c to 8c/kg. Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to 660c with a large sample averaging 544c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 484c to 520c with the occasional sale to 572c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 476c and averaged 444c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers or background made to 548c with most around 484c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed averaged from 437c to 456c/kg. The best of the heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 440c the largest numbers from 320c to 366c/kg. A small selection of heavy grown steers to export processors made to 347c to average 344c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 265c/kg. Good heavy weight cows averaged 313c and sold 323c/kg.

Another bigger week in Dalby with 4997 head yarded and GDL in 961 of those. Prices continued to soften this week as export processers were not as active and feed and trade buyers operated more selectively. Next week GDL are selling 2nd.
