Dalby sale 28 Feb 2024: Light steers to paddock dearer

Trevor Hess, NLRS 29/02/2024

Yarding 3678 Change -992

The trend of a reduction in supply each week at Dalby continued with numbers down by 993 head to 3,678.

Buyer attendance continues to be good and all were active in the market.

Prices overall experienced a wide variation with light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock noticeably dearer.

However the supply of light weight yearling heifers to restockers exceeded demand and most sold to a much cheaper trend.

Yearling steers and heifers to feed sold to a firm market.

A small sample of bullocks experienced very little change in price. Cows to export processors also sold to a firm market. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 496c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 484c to average 436c with the occasional steer with show potential reaching 605c/kg. Grant Daniel Long report:

Smaller yarding again in Dalby this week with the usual panel of buyers in attendance and operating. Cattle sold to a very strong market this week with all prices fully firm on last week’s market and secondary cattle receiving good support, selling to improved prices. Weaner steers, even fresh steers and cattle carrying a bit of milk weight sold very, with a lot of weaner steers over $4
