Cattle were drawn from a large area with 519 from far Western Queensland, 634 from New South Wales and 133 head from South Australia.

Export buyer attendance was not as good as the previous week, however the regular feed and trade operators were active.

Prices could not maintain the levels of the previous sale. Young cattle generally lost 5c to 10c and up to 20c to 30c/kg on poor quality lines. Heavy grown steers and bullocks averaged 7c to 10c/kg cheaper. Despite a lift in the quality of the cows prices fell by 4c to 6c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to 522c to average 443c with poor quality lines at 374c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market made to 420c to average 389c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to an isolated 414c to average 389c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to restocker made to 440c to average 385c poor quality at 291c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed made to 386c with most from 326c to 357c/kg. Heavy weights from 307c to 345c and sold to 370c/kg. Heavy grown steers and bullocks averaged 320c and made to 322c/kg. Medium weight cows to restockers made to 264c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows to processors averaged 270c/kg. Good heavy weight cows made to 288c to average 282ckg.

Heavy weight bulls to 300c/kg.

Big yarding in Dalby, 6414 head yarded with GDL penning 2270 of those. Buyers’ attendance was good however one export buyer was notably absent. Overall, the market couldn’t maintain last week’s levels, heavy cattle absorbing the biggest reduction. On average cows sold 5 to 10c/kg softer, bullocks sold to average around 320c/kg and heifers going to processors sold very close to 3 dollars. Light weight yearling cattle sold firm on last week for your better lines, however your lower grade cattle sold to a softer market
