Clearance falls to 59pc in 18,266 head AuctionsPlus offering

MEDIUM and heavier steers and heifers trended higher in c/kg price on AuctionsPlus this week, where only 59pc of an offering of 18,266 head found a buyer.

The offering size – one of the largest seen in recent months – was slightly higher than last week.

From a purchasing standpoint, Queensland was again the dominant buying state with 4350 head secured. New South Wales based buyers ended the week with 3000 head. The standout increases came from Western Australia, where purchases rose by to 1050, and South Australia, which lifted 1450.

On the listings front, Western Australia delivered the largest surge in supply nationally, rising to 1705, followed by Victoria which lifted to 2500.

Light steers went against the trend, with steers 200-280kg shedding 19c/kg to average 560c/kg, clearing 86pc of the offering of 1936 head.

Heavy feeders +400kg showed a solid 25c gain to average 504c/kg, but cleared only 55pc of the 2274 head offered.

Steers 280-330kg saw an offering of 2063, clearing 50pc, and improving 3c to average 557c.

A line of 68 Angus steers 7-8 months averaging 258kg from Armidale, NSW, returned $1700 or 658c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Toowoomba, QLD.

Heifers followed similar trends with heavier lines showing some gains. Feeder heifers +400kg lifted 8c to average 462c, but cleared only 28pc of the small offering of 297 head. Heifers 280-300kg also improved, lifting 23c to average 473c, clearing 65pc of the 1439 offered.

An offering of 51 F4 (+93pc) Wagyu steers 247kg at 8-18 months, and 43 heifer sisters averaging 225kg attracted no bids, being passed in for $1390 and $1180, respectively.

Breeding females

Breeding females mostly trended higher in value.

An offering of 965 PTIC heifers lifted $808 a head to average $2613, by cleared only 28pc. PTIC cows produced an offering of 716 head, clearing 41pc, while prices lifted $226 to average $2797, clearing 41pc.

Station-mated cows and calves offered 674 pairs, clearing 86pc while producing a $206 lift in average price to $3130.

Twenty 20 Angus PTIC heifers 26-27 months averaging 456kg from Mansfield, VIC, returned $3560 and will travel to a buyer near Buffalo River, VIC.
