AuctionsPlus cattle offering numbers lifted by 23 percent this week to 12,903 head, but clearance eased to 65pc.
Prices in c/kg terms were softer for most lighter and medium-weight steer and heifer categories. Breeding stock saw some gains in the cow and calf categories, while joined cows experienced declines.
New South Wales listed 15pc more than last week to total 7305 head, achieving a 66pc clearance, while Queensland listed 49pc more than last week and was the second highest listing state at 3455 head, clearing 69pc. New South Wales did the bulk of the purchasing, securing 50pc of the sold offering, followed by Queensland which picked up 31pc.
Processor/lotfeeder activity lifted to 12.3pc of the sold offering. Buyers showed particular interest in females this week, with mid-weight heifers attracting significant interest, while heavier steers continue to attract competition.
An offering of 1200 light steers 200-280kg cleared 88pc, with prices easing 6c/kg to average 450c/kg.
Steers 280-330kg saw 1220 entries clear 57pc, with prices unchanged from last week averaging 419c, while an offering of 2035 steers 330-400kg cleared 67pc, averaging 410c. An offering of 15 Angus steers 11-12 months averaging 283kg from Bishopsbourne, TAS returned $1350/head or 478c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Winnaleah, TAS.
Steers 400kg and heavier fell on a $/head basis by $20/head, but lifted on a c/kg basis by 10c to average 401c/kg.
Among larger steer lines offered this week, 108 backgrounder Angus steers 348kg at 12-14 months from Glen Innes northern NSW made 435c/kg, while another 64 of their heavier feeder-weight brothers 395kg made 429c.
Heifers
Among the heifer offering, heifers 200-280kg dropped 9c/kg to average 360c, while the 280-330kg category offering 2165 head cleared 70pc to lose 7c, averaging 340c. Edging a cent higher to average 366c was an offering of 1043 heifers 330-400kg, which cleared 75pc.
From Table Top, NSW 108 Angus heifers 12-13 months averaging 290kg returned $1420 or 490c and will travel to a buyer near Gobarralong, NSW.
Among bigger heifer lines offered this week, 384 Brahman heifers averaging 300kg at 12-24 months from Julia Creek, Northwest Queensland made 240c/kg or $721. Further south, 269 weaned Shorthorn x Santa steers and heifers 4-8 months from Winton saw the larger steer portion averaging 247kg make 450c/kg, And the heifer portion 195kg make 313c/kg.
