Isolated storms across the north saw numbers ease by nearly 100 for a yarding of 2955 cattle.

Quality was mixed, however an excellent offering of over 600 heavy young bullocks were penned, supported by a reduced number of heifers, mixed quality cows, store steers and heifers.

All regular processors, feeders and one live exporter were in attendance and operating at stronger rates throughout, strongly supported backgrounders. Cattle were drawn from Mt Isa to Georgetown, Julia Ck, south to Ayr and the local area.

Backgrounders lifted values on suitable types up to 18c, medium weight feeder steers and heifers lifted 16c to 18c/kg. Solid demand from all processors saw yearling steers and heifers to the trade lift 4c to 21c, prime steers rose 18c, cows increased 3c to 15c and heavy bulls were firm.

Vealer steers to restockers sold from 394c to 458c, similar heifers to restockers averaged 369c, heifers to processors reached 402c to average 385c/kg. Yearling steers above 280kg to background made to 460c most averaged 409c, feeder types averaged 382c/kg. Restocker steers above 330kg averaged 436c, steers to feed averaged from 417c to 439c/kg. Yearling heifers above 280kg to feed sold to 402c, a good sample averaging 373c/kg.

Yearling steers above 480kg to the trade sold from 416c to 464c and yearling heifers above 400kg to the trade made from 410c to 420c/kg. Prime grown steers above 400kg sold from 408c to 446c/kg. A good sample of prime grown steers above 500kg to processors sold from 430c to 459c, a large number above 600kg topped at 464c to average 460c/kg.

A limited supply of heavy full mouthed bullocks to export slaughter sold from 402c to 456c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 376c, selling to 388c,  3 scores made to 406c to average 393c/kg.
