Big lift in AuctionsPlus numbers as hot weather sets in

PTIC heifer highlights this week saw a 100pc clearance across 50 Speckle Park x Angus commercial heifers, PTIC to Speckle Park bulls, offered in the Minnamurra Speckle Park Sale, Coolah, NSW which averaged $1200 and topped at $1400.

CATTLE offerings jumped by 1300 head to total 10,610 on AuctionsPlus this week, boosted by significant listings in both the TAS & WA Cattle sales. Southern Queensland jumped to the most active purchasing region, securing just shy of 1400 head.

PTIC heifers averaged $1040 this week, selling from $870 to $1400. Top price was returned by a line of Angus x Friesian heifers from Stowport, TAS, 24-26 months averaging 406kg and PTIC to Speckle Park bulls. From Coonawarra, SA a line of 14 Banquet blood Angus heifers, 22-23 months and PTIC to Angus bulls returned $1250. Other PTIC heifer highlights saw a 100pc clearance achieved across 50 Speckle Park x Angus commercial heifers, PTIC to Speckle Park bulls, offered in the Minnamurra Speckle Park Sale, Coolah,  NSW which averaged $1200 and topped at $1400.

This week demand for PTIC cows was stronger, seeing clearance improve by 18pc to 72pc, with an average of $1171. Prices ranged from $750 to $1270, with the top price was returned by two lines from Blackwater, QLD offered by Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges. These prices were achieved by a line of 66 Brahman cross cows, 3-6 years, PTIC to Brahman bulls and 66 Brangus cross 3-5 year old cows, PTIC to Brahman, Brangus & Charbray bulls.

Prices for cows with calves at foot dropped by $34 this week, to average $1176, with prices from $830 to $1550. From Mittagong, NSW the top price went to a line of six year old Angus cows & calves, with 1-6 week old calves at foot. A line of 57 Angus cows & calves from Rylstone, NSW will make the journey to Keith, SA. These cows were 4-8 years, with 1-5 week old calves at foot, averaging 61kg.

Light steers under 200kg averaged 230c this week, selling between 199c and 285c.  A line of 10 month old Angus steers 189kg, from Deepwater, NSW returned the top price.

Steers weighing 200-280kg remained steady on last week, averaging 302c and selling from 258c to 354c. From Campbell Town, TAS a line of 11-12 month old Angus steers 228kg achieved the top price, while from Deepwater, NSW a line 113 Angus steers, 221kg at 11-12 months sold for 347c. Another highlight saw a line of 140 Droughtmaster cross steers from Baralaba, QLD return 203c.

Steers weighing 280-330kg sold from 267c to 364c this week, averaging 311c, up 1c on last week. From Launceston, TAS, 15-16 month old Angus steers 323kg achieved the top price, while from Holbrook, NSW a line of 76 Angus steers 322kg at 12-13 months old returned 349c.

Another highlight saw 108 Angus steers from Cooyar, QLD return 311c, and 52 yearling Angus steers 410kg from Baddaginnie, VIC make 316c.

Steers heavier than 330kg averaged 314c this week, selling from 305c to 346c. Returning the top price was a line of Murray Grey cross averaging 335kg at 12-13 months, from North Scottsdale, TAS. From Hillston, NSW a line of Angus feeder steers 387kg sold to a Queensland buyer for 315c.

Heifers 200-280kg sold from 148c to 308c this week, to average 239c, down 9c. Top price was paid for a line of 10-12 month old, Hereford x Angus heifers from Nabowla, TAS. From Earlston, VIC a line of Angus heifers, 10-12 months returned 288c to a buyer across the pond in Tasmania. Another highlight saw a line of Hazeldean blood Angus cross heifers from Cooma, NSW sell for 270c.

Heifers 280-330kg ranged from 196c to 325c this week, to average 280c, up 15c on last. Returning the top price was a line of 17 Angus heifers from Scottsdale, TAS. Highlights from the mainland saw Charolais x Angus heifers from Woodhouse, VIC return 308c, Angus heifers from Dulacca, QLD make 297c and Angus heifers from Walcha, NSW achieve 280c to a buyer from Korumburra, VIC.

Heifers above 330kg averaged 274c this week, ranging from 229c to 317c. Top price was achieved by a line of Charolais x Angus heifers 357kg from Woodhouse, VIC.

There was a 100pc clearance returned in this week’s WA Cattle Sale. From Narrikup, a line of 12 Angus feeder steers 345kg returned 305c/kg live; from Boyup Brook, 32 Angus yearling steers 486kg made 547c/kg dressed; and 31 slaughter Angus cross cows 644kg from Manjimup returned 454c/kg dressed.

In a breakdown of young cattle sold this week, by weight range:

Less than 200kg: Steers sold from 200-285c to average 230c, while heifers sold for 195c

200-280kg: Steers sold from 259-354c to average 302c, while heifers sold from 149-308c to average 239c

280-330kg: Steers sold from 267-364c to average 312c, while heifers sold from 197-325c to average 280c

330-400kg: Steers sold from 305-346c to average 315c, while heifers sold from 230-317c to average 274c

400+kg: Steers sold from 305-316c to average 312c, while heifers sold from 289-298c to average 292c
