AuctionsPlus cattle hit year-high offering, close to 13,000 head

DRIER and cold conditions in many heartland eastern states cattle producing regions pushed listing numbers on AuctionsPlus to a year-high of 12,949 head this week. Numbers picked up 2255 head or 21 percent on the previous week.

Unjoined heifers and steers made up the majority of listings, representing 27pc and 32pc respectively, while New South Wales was the biggest source of stock this week with 44pc of cattle offered.

While the cattle market is still strong, it may have come off the boil slightly, with clearances wavering this week. However this did not stop young proven breeders attracting red hot demand online.

Four year old EU-accredited Angus cows preg tested in calf to Wagyu bulls from Trangie, NSW sold for $2570, and four-year-old Bongongo blood Angus cows from Forbes, NSW, PTIC to Kenny’s Creek blood Angus bulls, sold for $2430.

A line of Limflex (Limo x Angus) x Red Angus first-calvers and calves from Rouchel, NSW also drew buyer activity selling for $3050.

In a breakdown of young cattle sold this week, by weight range:

  • Steers less than 250kg sold from 355c to 477c/kg to average 404c (down 30c); while heifers sold from 260-434c to average 352c
  • Steers 250-300kg sold from 333-431c to average 376c (down 31c); while heifers sold from 285-441c to average 367c (down 8c)
  • Steers 300- 350kg sold from 370-395c to average 370c (down 9c); while heifers sold from 318-465c to average 370c (up 4c)
  • Heifers 350-400kg from 361-339c to average 350c.

Crossbred F1 Wagyu steers included a 258kg average weight line of Wagyu x Shorthorns 10-11 months from Trangie, NSW which sold for 648c liveweight or $1670, while 10-11 mths 245kg Wagyu x Angus steers from Goondiwindi, Queensland sold for 661c or $1620.

Other steer highlights this week included 5-9 mths, 180kg Red Angus from Inglewood, QLD which sold for 477c or $860.

Heifer highlights this week included Te Mania and Rennylea blood Angus heifers 9-11 mths 308kg future breeders from Ben Lomond, NSW which sold for 465c or $1430, and a line of 297kg, 10-11 month old Santa heifers from Moree, NSW selling for 441c or $1310. Their brothers 330kg made $1200.
