YOUNG steer and heifer categories dropped an average 10-20c/kg in price on AuctionsPlus this week.

Nationwide listings remained unchanged, with 10,548 head listed across all sales. A clearance rate of 55pc was achieved for the week, with some post-sale negotiations still to occur.

The majority of listings fell into the Weaner and Yearling category with a total of 6857 head listed across two sales. The majority of listings this week came out of NSW.

Joined stock totalled 138 head, with a 49pc clearance rate achieved. The top price for PTIC heifers of $1120 was achieved by a line of 15-17 month old Angus heifers from Mudgegonga, VIC. These heifers averaged 450kg and were PTIC to Hicks black composite bulls.

A line of 57 6-8 year old Shorthorn cows, PTIC to Shorthorn and composite bulls, in backward store to poor condition due to the drought, from Merriwa NSW reached the top price of $745 for PTIC cows.

This week saw a total offering of 2182 cow and calf units with stock listed from QLD, NSW and VIC. Top price of $1950 was achieved for a line of Angus cows, 38-40 months old with young Angus calves at foot, from Mudgee NSW.

Top price for older aged cows of $1800 was reached by a line of 20 station-mated 4-7 years old Angus cows with Angus CAF and joined back to Angus bulls, from Cudal NSW. These cows will be heading for a sea change to The Oaks, NSW.

The two weaner & yearling sales achieved a combined clearance of 50pc for a total of 6857 head. Top price was $1445 or 324c/kg for a line of 54 Angus feeder steers 15-20 months averaging 445kg, from  Mudgee NSW.

A line of 113 NSM future breeders – Angus heifers 17-20 months averaging 348kg, from Goolma NSW – fetched the top price for this category, reaching $1050 or 302c/kg. They will be making their way to Mudgee NSW.

Yearling steers were topped by a line of 43 Hereford steers 14-15 months averaging 402kg, from Seymour VIC, reaching a price of $1165 or 289c/kg. These steers will be heading on a boat to Smithton TAS.

A total of 194 head were listed in WA this week with a clearance rate of 96pc achieved. Young stock averaged $914 and topped at $1332 or 511c/kg. The top price was achieved by a line of 15-16 month old mixed sex Angus yearlings from Quinninup WA. These steers weighed in at 260kg dressed and were a mixture of Angus, Hereford and Murray Grey.

This week saw the interface of the Skibo Downs Complete Herd Dispersal with a total of 1084 head across 78 lots, achieving a 100pc clearance rate. Cows and calves average $1258 with a top price of $1940, achieved by a line of 2-3 year old cows with CAF. Joined stock averaged $982 and reached a top of $1460 for a line of 5-6 year old PTIC cows. Weaned stock averaged $590 and topped at $880 for a line of 5-8 month old composite weaner steers.

In a breakdown of young cattle sold this week, by weightrange:

• Steers less than 250kg sold from 253c to 312c to average 287c; while heifers sold from 185-320c to average 251c
• Steers 250-300kg sold from 267-314c to average 294c; while heifers sold from 238-289c to average 266c
• Steers 300-350kg sold from 182-340c to average 291c; while heifers sold from 243-301c to average 275c
• Steers 350+kg sold from 192-331c to average 260c; while heifers averaged 260c
