Mort & Co's Jordan Peach was named the Young Feedlot Industry Achiever in 2012.Applications opened this week for one of the feedlot industry’s most prestigious Awards for, the Phibro Young Lot Feeder Achiever Award (YLFAA).

Young people who are looking to become future industry leaders are encouraged to apply. The Award is open to ALFA Feedlot Member employees who are under 30 years of age.

The application process involves applicants completing an entry form – which can be found on the ALFA website www.feedlots.com.au, submitting a resume providing brief details of the applicant’s background, achievements and current position, and provide a typed essay outlining their solution to a real, or perceived, industry problem (with a maximum of 500 words). Their entry must also be accompanied by general comment/endorsement from their Feedlot Manager or Company Director.

“The award is an outstanding opportunity for young people in the feedlot industry to gain experience in being interviewed and interview techniques. It also provides the opportunity for writing about an industry issue that impacts, or is likely to impact, the lot feeding industry and propose solutions to this issue," ALFA membership & events Executive, Madie Hamilton said.

The award is proudly sponsored by ALFA’s long standing Platinum Member, Phibro Animal Health Pty Ltd. Phibro has supported the YLFAA for almost a decade. Over the years, the award has been won by young lot feeders who have since gone on to become successful feedlot managers across the country.

“The top 3 finalists will be invited to present their essay topic to the widely popular ALFA event, BeefWorks which will this year be held at Kerwee Feedlot on October 23rd & 24th. Their presentation will entail a brief summary of their essay topic including their suggested strategy and actions to manage it,” Ms Hamilton said.

The winner will be chosen by a Phibro / ALFA judging panel and will receive $5,000 in funding to be used for educational development. Most recipients have used this award to visit the feedlot industry in the USA.

YLFAA 2012 winner, Jordon Peach of Mort & Co’s Grassdale Feedlot in QLD said “The Phibro YLFAA is a great opportunity for people to develop their skills in a challenging yet supportive environment. It provides participants with networking opportunities with other applicants and the ALFA council.”
