Federal agriculture minister Barnaby Joyce on Friday today congratulated Simon Crean on his appointment as the new chair of the Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council (ALEC).
“As a former Federal minister for the agriculture, trade and regional Australia portfolios, Mr Crean has a deep understanding of Australia’s agriculture and livestock sectors, its challenges and opportunities,” Minister Joyce said.
“As a former Agriculture Minister Mr Crean is widely respected across the political spectrum and brings considerable experience to this important role.
“After you leave the political football field one still respects the better players from the other side.
“The Australian livestock industry has a proud history and this Government has been working in close partnership with the industry to assist Australian producers to achieve the best possible returns. The live export trade is a vital component in achieving this.
“I welcome Simon as the new chair of ALEC and I look forward to working together with him and the industry that helps underpin rural and regional jobs and communities across the country.”
